The research of Dr. Daniel Goleman, psychologist and science journalist, shows that 90% of performance difference between star and normal performers in based on emotional intelligence.
Robin identified four skills as part of emotional intelligence: (1) personal competence (self-awareness and management; (2) social competence (social awareness and relationship management); (3) social awareness (listening and observing); (4) relationship management (ability to use awareness and one’s own emotions and those of others to manage interactions successfully).
Robin recommended Emotional Intelligence 2.0 by Travis Bradberry and Jean Greaves for a self-assessment tool and specific strategies on how one can improve one’s emotional intelligence as a skill that we can all develop which is not hard-wired when we are born.
