Meet Marie Carlie

Marie has had a storied career in tax accounting and currently serves as a Tax Partner at BDO, a full-service tax and financial advisory firm. Marie’s passion for accounting is twofold—she enjoys it’s complexity, as well as its value-add to customers.

Email and the world wide web, among other technologies, have allowed for the quick flow of information. As such, Marie’s role is, in many ways, one of customer service, where she’s mastered the art of responding expeditiously while remaining accurate in the numbers. Today, Marie is in the midst of assisting a company through the public offering process—a challenge Marie faces head-on.

Marie moved from upstate New York to St. Louis and joined Stone Carlie, a family-founded accounting firm. Six years ago, the firm merged with BDO. However, BDO still values Stone Carlie’s roots—the St. Louis office, in particular, focuses on rapidly growing businesses, a core concentration of the acquired firm.

Forum played an essential role in Marie’s acclimation to St. Louis. Her early friends here were tied to Forum and introduced her to their respective communities. She has been a long-time member and served as our Board Chair 10 years ago.

Marie and her family have a vacation home in Holiday Shores, Edwardsville, which, in recent years, has grown to be a wonderful family-gathering spot with her four sons and their families. They worked to get the house in shape for a family wedding, a family reunion, and most recently, her father’s memorial service.

Marie recommends one of her favorite restaurants, Peno Soul Food. It’s a small restaurant in Clayton offering southern Italian cuisine.
