Forum Cares at Almost Home: Forum Volunteer Initiative Kick-Off A Great Success
Last week Forum’s volunteer initiative, Forum Care, launched at
Almost Home, a nonprofit organization that supports teenage mothers by providing stable housing, education on parenting skills, support for educational and work advancement, and financial literacy, with a goal of self-sufficiency.
It was an eye-opening, powerful experience that made an impression on us:
“For me, as someone who works behind the scenes in outsourcing, folding and sorting clothes at Almost Home reminded me how powerful unseen support truly is,” said Nelmari Carter-Johnson. “These young mothers are choosing a new path and breaking generational cycles, and they are surrounded by staff who uplift them with unwavering dedication—and by women quietly rooting for them from behind the scenes.”
Forum President Dawn Gipson found that “volunteering with Forum Cares at Almost Home was a grounding reminder of how small acts can create real impact. The nine of us spent the afternoon sorting clothes, but what I really walked away with was a deeper understanding of the challenges facing young women in our region, and a stronger connection to the incredible women standing beside me. It was one of those simple, intimate experiences that quietly expands your perspective and your network.”
“I think Sarah from Almost Home said it best. We are women supporting women,” said Tami Brown. “Learning about the impact Almost Home has on breaking the poverty cycle and then having the opportunity to serve them while learning about fellow Forum members made for an incredibly impactful afternoon. I can’t wait for the next opportunity to volunteer together.”
Look for the next Forum Cares volunteering date to be announced shortly. And if you know of a local nonprofit that whose mission is to serve women and seeks volunteers, please reach out to Wendy Edelstein, Vice-Chair of Forum’s Membership Committee at wendy@changeovercoaching.com.
